Sheriff seeks budget boost

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County sheriff Doug Schuster has asked for a funding boost while the board of supervisors anticipates adopting a spending plan for the next fiscal year on Aug. 2. Schuster told supervisors Monday that some progress has been made in the last couple of years as the department has worked to raise pay and reduce compression issues. But Schuster said more upward salary adjustments are needed to attract and retain personnel, particularly entry level deputy and detention positions. Development fees adopted for Kingman

KINGMAN – Formal and final adoption of development fees came at Tuesday’s Kingman City council meeting. The 5-2 vote was expected as council members Keith Walker and Cherish Sammeli expressed a mix of reservation and opposition through various junctures in the process that will see the fees implemented in early October. Vice Mayor Ken Watkins said the adopted fees will generate about half the revenue than the original proposal. He said the compromise appears workable.
