KINGMAN – Mohave County supervisors have opted for compromise after voting Aug. 16 for immediate termination of a lease allowing the Fair Association to operate the Fairgrounds facilities in Kingman and hold events there. A 3-2 vote during a special Aug. 19 board meeting will instead terminate the lease at the end of this year. Dear Editor, Afghanistan has guns but they are in the hands of the wrong people. Television news reports have confirmed the Taliban has our helicopters, our tanks, our trucks, along with billions of dollars of our American taxpayer-bought military weapons and more. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey on Friday appointed Megan A. McCoy to the Mohave County Superior Court judicial position vacated when the Honorable Charles Gurtler retired on June 30. McCoy, Kingman, was one of four finalists who interviewed for the bench appointment. McCoy served as a Deputy Mohave County Attorney prosecuting cases from 2006 to 2019, when she was appointed as Mohave County Court Commissioner. Dear Editor, With the Taliban now as the Afghan government, it is very possible they will revert in culture back to the 4th century, but with 20th century weapons. If this happens, they will apply a severe interpretation of Islam and the Qur’an. With the Taliban, Islam’s Sharia Law will be strictly followed in a most conservative, militant view. Sharia Law regulates public behavior, private behavior, and even private beliefs. Sharia Law also favors corporal punishment and capital punishment over incarceration.
