Catholic Charities Switches Focus to Affordable Housing

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman has been working with Catholic Charities of Arizona on their $4.5 million renovation of the Route 66 Motel located at 2939 E. Andy Devine Avenue as part of their Housing for Hope program. The Department of Housing awarded those grant funds to Catholic Charities, with the intent of renovating it into a 20-unit transitional housing facility. Transient fatality in Bullhead City

BULLHEAD CITY – Bullhead City Police report a transient was lying in the roadway at Highway 95 and Thunderstruck when he was fatally injured by a passing vehicle. Officers responded to the incident at about 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Police spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said the 29-year-old driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic was unable to avoid striking Anthony Lockwood. She said Lockwood died of his injuries following transport to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.

Elaine Anne Byrnes

March 13, 1943 – May 31, 2023 Elaine Anne Byrnes passed away on May 31, 2023, at a Hospice house in Tucson. Elaine was born on March 13, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts to Samuel and Anna (O’Shea) Cooke. In June 1961 Elaine married her soulmate, John Byrnes. Together, they raised a familyand relocated to Lake Havasu in 1976.  Elaine volunteered at her children’s elementary schools, Starline and Oro Grande and eventually built a career at the Lake Havasu Board of Realtors. Upon retirement, she volunteered at the Lake Havasu City Visitor Center. In 2020, she moved to Tucson to be closer to family. Elaine was a loving wife, and a dearmother to her five children. She was also a proud“Grammy/Gigi” to ten…
