LAKE HAVASU CITY – Explore unique craftsmanship of beautifully handmade quilts at this year’s Bridge of Freedom Quilt Show. The Havasu Stitchers club was formed in 1992 with only 31 members. The group was formed for passionate quilt makers wanting to meet other like-minded individuals all in the name of patterns, textiles, and quilting techniques.
Back then, the club became a chapter affiliated with the Arizona Quilters Guild in Phoenix, Arizona. Since then, the group’s membership has expanded to 177 members. Previously, the nonprofit group has participated in annual occasions like Balloon Fest and Winter Fest.
The club is also continuously active in community outreach. Currently, the club is participating in a year-long project that will honor our local firefighters. Together, they will be stitching two large 70×90 twin-sized quilts intended for firefighters to use on fire station beds. Their monthly meetings occur the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Lake Havasu Senior Center. The organization is always accepting new members.
The Havasu Stitchers Bridge of Friendship Quilt Show will be displaying more than 100 handmade quilts this year. This will be their fifth annual event. There will be a vendor mall, antique quilt bed turning presentation, a quilt challenge, and a 3 p.m. raffle drawing. Attendees can also shop for fiber arts and food trucks will be there for shoppers to enjoy. The two-day event will have an admission fee of $10. The Bridge of Friendship Quilt Show will be on Friday and Saturday, February 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aquatic Center. The Havasu Stitchers want to pass on their quilting expertise and appreciation for the art form to the community.
They also want to encourage collecting and quilt making to anyone interested. In continuation of the group’s community outreach, proceeds from the Bridge of Friendship Quilt Show will go towards supporting local food banks.
