Regarding the MCAA Finance Committee meeting

Rich Lettman

Dear Editor,

For the past two years, the Board of Supervisors and I have been stonewalled by the Mohave County Airport Authority (MCAA) through the leadership of its director as we repeatedly requested public records and reports about the financial health of the Airport Authority.

Today’s reports from the new MCAA Board Treasurer show an airport on the brink of bankruptcy after multi-million-dollar deficits, operating through the use of restricted funds to maintain day-today operations, poor and irrational business decisions, and critical financial decisions made without review and approval by the MCAA Board of Directors.

This is nothing short of a financial fiasco via the operational mismanagement under the leadership of its director.

The Laughlin Bullhead International Airport has always been owned by the people of Mohave County. 50 years ago, a decision was made to create the MCAA to operate the airport on behalf of the County. That era is now coming to an end as Mohave County takes back operational control of the Laughlin Bullhead International Airport (tentatively expected in January).

However, this story is far from over.

It is unknown at this time whether the people responsible for this financial mismanagement will face consequences for their actions.

I intend to introduce motions at the Board of Supervisors meeting on November 2nd to start the process to improve the operations of the airport and start the transformation into the economic driver for the region that it should be.”
