KINGMAN, Ariz. – A mandatory prison term awaits a Kingman man charged with various weapon-related offenses over multiple crime scenes. A plea agreement for Dylan Swint, 38, was entered Oct. 23 at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center in Kingman.
Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) investigation began the evening of Aug. 17 when dispatchers were informed shots had been fired in the parking lot of The Lodge in the Hualapai Mountains. The agency said witnesses told detectives they heard gunshots before they saw a man exit an SUV, approach the business and return to the vehicle and drive away.
Swint subsequently stopped along Hualapai Mountain Road near Lazy YU, according to the MCSO. He reportedly pointed a weapon at a man who stopped to check on his welfare.
MCSO said Swint continued driving toward Kingman before pulling over again and pointing a weapon at a man, woman and child in a second vehicle that stopped to see if anyone needed assistance.
Deputy Kingman police chief Joel Freed said Swint ended up in the city where he allegedly fired 17 rounds at two different homes. Officers responded at 8:05 p.m. to reports of multiple gunshots at a residence in the 3700 block of Miller Street.
“Officers learned that approximately seven shots had been fired and that the suspect fled in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle,” Freed said.
Deputy county attorney Carlos Lopez said Swint tried to kick in the front door, before firing five rounds into it with another bullet piercing a window of the home.
By the time police arrived at the Miller address, they and others heard more gunshots nearby. Freed said Swint fired another 10 rounds at a home and two vehicles in the 3700 block of Kenneth Road.
No one was injured through the entire ordeal. Swint was arrested following a traffic stop shortly after he drove from the Kenneth Road property.
Freed said motive for the crime spree was unclear but that Swint was highly intoxicated and possibly under the influence of an unknown drug when taken into custody.
Multiple felony offenses are dismissed in the plea deal convicting Swint of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm at a residential structure. Its terms require imposition of an 8.5-year prison term at a Nov. 24 sentencing hearing.
