Emergency preparedness fair set in Kingman

ambulance

KINGMAN, Ariz. – How prepared is your family for an emergency? Residents throughout Kingman, Bullhead City, Golden Valley, Fort Mohave, Wikieup and surrounding Mohave County communities are invited to attend a free Community Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 610 Eastern Ave.

The community event is designed to help individuals and families learn practical skills, discover resources and connect with people who can help them become better prepared for emergencies.

Kingman resident and event organizer Ed Jones says the fair is an opportunity for community members everywhere to explore, learn and develop emergency preparedness skills in an informative, family-friendly setting.

Attendees can see police, fire and EMS vehicles, visit preparedness booths, participate in hands-on activities, learn about alternative cooking methods, see a fire hose demonstration and meet knowledgeable people and organizations. A helicopter landing is also planned, weather and mission permitting.

This is an opportunity to learn practical skills, gather resources, connect with experts and strengthen the community.  There will be classes on making bread from food storage, a ‘stop the bleed’ presentation by KRMC, water purification and storage, developing a three-month supply / meals in a jar, wonder box, basic home canning, and estate planning. As well as classes, there will be booths with presentations on long term food storage, gardening, emergency preparedness, Red Cross, Mohave County Emergency Management on ‘ready-set-go’ and ‘fire-wise,’ first aid kits, Ham radio/GMRS, freeze drying, fire making, 72-hour kit, self-reliance, and automotive emergency preparedness.

Whether you are just beginning to think about emergency preparedness or already have an emergency plan and supplies at home, this free fair will provide information families can put to use immediately.
