Vote Vets for the common good

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

You can use your life experiences to better the lives of others, or not. I’ve personally know veterans who’ve done both. And it can make all the difference in the world which way you chose. Going positive or going negative. I have the utmost respect for veterans who honorably serve their country who return home from harrowing experiences with personal losses and tragedies who chose rather to fall victim to their war experiences they take those experiences and put them to good use helping better the lives of others. Using them for the common good. Doing good works within their families and communities.

Some even serve in government leadership like House Rep. Jason Crow and Sen Tommy Duckworth and so many others.

Like our own Sen Mark Kelly working hard at trying to help our government make better and wiser choices that’ll keep us out of wars of choice, yet, attacked and threatened by those currently running our country.

One who pounds on his chest and beats war drums and sends others to fight and another who’s a five-time draft dodger who said that the Abraham Lincoln ship crew “hadn’t been deported long enough” though months past their liberty time. Out at sea with lack of food, drinking water, and everyday supplies with limited wi-fi and limited medical care. Punishing soldiers pushed to their limit and firing Stars and Stripes newspaper reporters for reporting the facts. Our military families deserve nothing but the truth. Period. Vote Vets is calling for Pete Hegseth to be impeached for his egregious actions. Firing high-ranking admirals and generals left and right with undue cause while others resigning because Hegseth is combative and unrealistic and won’t listen to reason and is jeopardizing the safety of our military and country. One who acts like a dry alcoholic and the other going down in history for calling U.S. soldiers “suckers and losers.”

Even Vietnam veteran and once-longtime friend Jessie Ventura who cut ties with Trump, said, “While us poor white boys were sweating and fighting and dying for our country Donald was golfing and dancing and skirt chasing in night clubs,” and would smugly laugh about it. Not even tough guy Ventura could stomach Trump or anyone for that matter with a. conscience.

And this is not lost on many veterans including Vote Vets. A political action committee and advocacy group that supports and endorses progressive and democratic military veterans run for office focused on national security, veterans care, and policy. And we need them more than ever with an administration hellbent on getting us into conflicts that lead to wars.

Where is the common good in any of this with wars of choice costing us trillions that otherwise could be used to better our lives and our country. And certainly nothing common or good about Trump’s presidency that assaults our Constitution and Democracy like no other in our country’s history.

We need politicians that’ll do something about it. Not politicians that’ll do whatever Trump wants regardless how bad it is for us and our country.

Wreaking havoc with millions of lives Trump focuses on vanity projects and creating corrupt criminal slush funds and monetizing the presidency to make himself and his family rich while the rest of America struggles with a cost-of-living crisis. And to top it off Trump and his allies want to cheat their way to winning through gerrymandering and trying to destroy mail-in voting and bribing voters with money they will never see. People are tired of Trump and all his yes-men with their lies and bait and switch and the polls are showing it. Vote Vets and those like-minded running in the midterm elections know what’s at stake and aren’t sweeping it under the rug.

Americans are outraged by the skyrocketing cost of living, illegal wars, ICE raids, and Trump’s brazen corruption. And it’s only going to get worse. Much worse, if not stopped. And Vote Vets will not and can, but they need our help to get more of them and those with the same goals in the House and Senate.

They need our votes in a time that could never be more important we all come together for the common good.

J.M.
