Primary elections are no less important – Part Two

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I was raised in a Republican family but what’s going on with our Republican Party today is beyond my understanding in how I was raised and what goes against my moral and political sensibilities. Asking myself a perplexing question: Why are we locking up thousands of people and kicking them out of our country taking their rights and legal status from them; other than we’re bigots and racists? I can’t support this nor denying American citizens their civic rights to speak out whether it be in the media or in their communities or at the voting polls where this administration is currently trying to pass a bill that’ll make it harder for women to vote as will restrict the majority of voters including myself from mail-in voting.

Nor am I ok with a party that prosecutes people with seashells on the beach and muzzles information about a ring of elite pedophiles and a party that supports racist rigged maps and baseless voting fraud in an attempt to make it harder for Americans to vote. Trump did say in his 2024 campaign, “Vote for me and you’ll ever have to vote again.”

For me it’s unthinkable jut this alone to vote for anyone that supports a man in the White House that wants to set up a slush fund with taxpayer money for criminal and cop beaters while him and his family and wealthy donors are robbing people blind and funneling money from our government to make themselves even richer or those who call it socialism to suggest we set our thermostat at 78 to prevent stressing the power grid during a heatwave. Or the hypocrisy to accuse someone of being a communist if they have political differences.

That’s not how our democracy and constitution works and it just shows they’re a party that has nothing to run on. I for one cannot support this kind of misleading political ideology from the man who wants his face on Mt. Rushmore that could cause significant damage, if they tried. But then look what happened to the East Wing of the White House that was promised it would not lose its historical integrity, now gone, and the sad case of the Lincoln Memorial Reflection Pool and on and one that all of this is costing taxpayers in the billions. And, these desecrations won’t stop with plans to sell off public land and our natural resources to greedy multi-millionaire realtors at the invite of our current president who’s destroying everything that’s good and sacred.

Including what I and many had learned what it means to be a good citizen and Christian. Yet he wants his face next to great men like Teddy Roosevelt who built his legacy on saving our country’s natural beauties and the others who united our country for noble causes, unlike what we see today. Remembering what it was like in 1976 we were united as a nation to now seeing patriotism turning into nationalism – on our 250th birthday 400 members of a neo-fascist white nationalist hate group marched through Washington, D.C. carrying the Confederate flag wearing white head masks as if they’re knockoffs from the Ku Klux Klan. But then why not when a Republican on the hill got called out for having an American flag in his office with the Nazi emblem on it. I don’t know where these sort of Republicans are coming from but all the more it’s important we vote.

Politicians and government leaders from the ground up who support Trump support his corruptions and if we vote for them we vote for it too.

But regardless how any of us vote our primary elections are no less important.

J.M.
