KINGMAN, Ariz. – A Kingman man who allegedly strangled a woman during a domestic dispute has entered a plea agreement to resolve his criminal case. Cody Nolen, 27, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault by domestic violence during a June 22 hearing before Judge Ryan Esplin.
Deputy Mohave County Attorney Tonda Hill said officers responded to a citizen request that a welfare check be conducted in the 3600 block of Oriole Lane on March 17. Hill said Nolen turned violent during an argument with the victim involving her text message communications.
Hill told the court that the 27-year-old victim reported that she gagged and nearly threw up as she struggled to breathe when she was grabbed around the neck. “The defendant squeezed her so hard that it left her eyes pulsating,” Hill said.
Nolen is eligible for probation but also faces up to 1.5 years in prison.
“I’d like to see him on probation,” the victim said.
Judge Esplin told the victim she could further address the Court on that point when Nolen is sentenced on July 20.
