Dear Editor,
When I read the other day Pastor Jerry Dunn’s article, ‘ Proof of Faith is in action, not proclamations,’ I thought of the shameful vulgarity and unseemly behaviors of our president who proclaims to be ‘more religious than anyone” just after he attacked a religious leader with lies and mockery for quoting the words of Jesus.
It was stunning to say the least. And when someone was asked about what they thought about our president posting on AI image of himself as Jesus Christ they replied with just three words, “The 25th Amendment.” Impeachment of a president for lack of mental acuity. If anything Trump’s behaviors, speech and actions are improper and indecent and do not keep with established standards of good taste and propriety. While many agree it’s blasphemy to present oneself to be Jesus Christ what Trump did went viral that left all the world aghast and still talked about along with his attack on, or all people, the Holy Pontiff of the Universal Church, the Catholic Pope?! For not getting on boards with his wars! Trump angry at him for doing what Popes have always done: They talk about war, they talk about poverty, they talk about loving thy neighbor.
Not since WW when Germany leaders told the Pope to be “careful with his words” where the ‘exact’ words J.D. Vance directed at Pope Leo. Vance a recent Catholic convert absurdly insinuates he knows more about Catholic theology than the Pope? And as if clueless to the gospel teaching, ‘you can only serve one master,’ J.D. chose his when he defended Trump’s meme of Jesus Christ, saying, ‘Christians don’t have a sense of humor.’
Both him and Trump telling Pope Leo to stay in his lane while Pete Hegseth macho-posters with Biblical scriptures attempting to justify wars even quoting a violent scene taken from Pulp Fiction!? And then they blatantly lie saying the holy father, the vicar of Christ wants Iran to have nuclear weapons when not Pope Leo or any Pope has ever wanted any country including ours to have such weapons. Then doing what Trump does best he mocked Pope Leo saying, “If it wasn’t for him, he wouldn’t be the Pope” … as if Trump is claiming to be God now? Then to inflict further insult with retaliation for the Pope not backing down from teaching the teachings of Jesus, Trump immediately defunded Catholic charities that have been around forever doing what Jesus taught; caring for the children and the elderly and the vulnerable.
You don’t have to be Catholic to see how wrong this is. Anyone in the public eye who promotes peace rather than wars he’ll be their worst adversary regardless what church they’re affiliated with as he’s been doing with James Talarico. A strong and faithful Baptist running for senate who stands up to the threats of Trump destroying our country’s moral sensibilities. It angers Trump all the more if you’re religious and don’t support him because it’s the religious sector that’s been his main target wanting to get control of. But millions of us aren’t buying into him standing on the White House lawn saying, “I am the chosen one,” or depicting himself as Jesus Christ and a healer and a doctor when he strips his own people of their health insurance and bombs and kills thousands.
Violating every teaching of Jesus Christ. Even the Knights of Templar have rebuked Trump! I, as a Christian, along with millions of others who can see Trump for who and what he is. Even some now wonder if he’s the anti-Christ with his acts of mass cruelty and mockery of our Lord and Savior. But whether or not he’s what some think he is he’s hurting us and the world on a multitude of levels.
Regardless if Trump and Vance try to roll it back because of pushback from the religious sector they’ve shown us who they really are. From the ICE acts of cruelty to the death and suffering with their wars of choice cruelty for the sake of cruelty seems to be the point. As is attacking those who advocate for world peace.
J.M.
