Nucor celebrates grand opening of new $100 Million melt shop near Kingman

KINGMAN – City of Kingman officials, including Mayor Ken Watkins and Councilmembers Shawn Savage and Smiley Ward, joined representatives from Nucor Corporation to celebrate the grand opening of Nucor’s new state-of-the-art melt shop located just outside Kingman in Mohave County.

The $100 million investment will add 160 new full-time jobs with an average annual wage of $85,000. The facility will have the capacity to produce up to 600,000 tons of steel annually.

“This project represents tremendous progress for our community,” said Mayor Ken Watkins. “Not only is Nucor bringing quality jobs and cutting-edge technology to the region, but they’re also investing in the long-term prosperity of Mohave County and the families who call it home. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with them.”

Nucor representatives stressed the importance of safety in the company’s mission. “Safety is Nucor’s number one cultural value,” said Matt Blitch, Nucor Vice President and General Manager. “We want every teammate to go home safely at the end of each shift, every day. Our goal is zero injuries, and this project helps us take another step toward that goal by using technology to remove teammates from potential hazards. Eliminating risks like that is how we make ‘zero’ possible.”
