Not In My Name

letter to the editor

Dear Editor,

Although not nearly as simple as the decades long Hatfield and McCoy violent family feud, this family feud in the Middle East has been going on since Abraham exiled Hagar with his first born in the desert wilderness.

There has been tit for tat and wars and rumors of wars for a thousand years. People who come from the same father yet believe they are the chosen people, and the other, who believe you are an infidel if you’re not one of them. They both declare rights to land they all have inhabited since the beginning of time but refuse to share.

How does one get in to the middle of a bitter family feud as old as theirs. International courts have tried but to no avail. They can not been helped until they want to help each other.

There is an organization “Not in my name.”

Jews and Palestinians coming together whom believe you should not use religion or political or ethnic background as a reason to profit off of and kill others. They call their leaders out for being wolves in sheep skin, professing they want peace when they act like the warmongers that they are.

While one group slaughters and takes people as hostages (as was done on October 7th, 2023), the other for decades have been stealing land and corralling men, women and children and babies into small areas.

No better than what the Germans did to the Jews and what was done to the Native Americans while Benjamin Netanyahu (Bebe) tries to pull us into his wars he flatters Trump with gifts and says he is his good friend. And who knows, maybe they are best of friends doing what friends often do best. While one scratches on back the other does the same.

Bebe is demolishing Gaza and its people while Trump plans to bulldoze it and build his dream Middle East beach front resort. No doubt they both have their agendas but Trump knows his are at a higher cost.

He knows campaigned on “no wars on my watch.” And MAGA and conservatives and progressives alike do not want another war in the Middle East.

Trump condemned us going to war with Iraq, and rightfully so. Yet in the same breath condemned us for not taking their oil while we were there. Missing the whole point. We we’re not there to steal and plunder.

Trump recently Tweeted, “Let’s make Iran Great Again!” Knowing it is rich in oil and crucial minerals. As I said, there is always an agenda behind someone’s closed door. No matter how Vance and Trump’s other yes-men try to spin it, when they bombed Iran they declared war in the eyes and heart of Iran. And maybe not in days or months or even two years they know how to play the long game with the idea that revenge is sweeter when served cold.

We were lied into the Iraq war and now with Iran. Trump said he “obliterated” their nuclear facility when intelligence agencies say otherwise and even question the nuke powers Iran has.

It sounds all to familiar. But whether or not if Trump hadn’t tor up the nuclear treaty, his predecessor made with Iran, we wouldn’t be in the situation we are now. The Middle East is a hot mess. It always has been. War crimes are being committed on both sides.

Even Trump said, “they’ve been fighting so hard and for so long, they don’t know what they are doing.” So then what is he doing? Yes we can call out war crimes and stop funding those who do and protest peacefully but don get any more blood on our hand than we already have.

We should have stayed out when we got out but like a revolving door we’re right back where we started. Little have we learned that bombing to win sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. But it’s never a one-and-done. As Trump wants to think.

So choose your battles wisely Mr. President, or else it just might come back to bite you and all of us hard in the end.

JM.
