Star Cinemas in Havasu hosts free family movies throughout the summer

LAKE HAVASU — Star Cinemas in Lake Havasu is hosting free movies for families this summer. Doors open at 9:30am for all viewings, which begin at 10 a.m. All films are free to the public.

This year’s season kicked off last month with 2024’s family themed film, “Garfield the Movie.” The favorite orange cynical cat that has been tickling audiences since 1978, finally got its opportunity to be embraced by a new generation last week.

If you missed “Garfield,” there are still plenty of upcoming movies in store filled with whimsical and venturesome memoirs. Families can engage in more fairy tale fun with this week’s feature film by movie director Carlos Salanda titled, “Harold and the Purple Crayon.”

Starring “Spy Kids” actor Zachary Levi and “Elf” actress Zooey Deschanel, the movie tells the tale of a storybook character with capabilities to make everything come to life by drawing it, even himself.  His drawing skills take him out of his own book and into the real world, only to experience some of life’s lessons.

Next week audiences will have a chance to see Miles Morales of the famous Marvel Comics in the animated superhero movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” A teenaged Morales will be the universe’s Spider-Man having to team up with five other spider powered people to prevent a threat to actualities.

The following week, there will be a continuation of additional Morales adventurous journeys with a showing of “Spider Man Across the Spider Universe.”

Also, an appearance of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” will be on the list the week after.  The movie will be followed up after that show for the theater’s finale with the sequel, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.”

This week’s screening of “Harold and the Purple Crayon” will still be showing for the next two days on Thursday, July 3, and Friday, July 4.

“Spider Man: Into the Spider Universe” will begin showing on Monday, July 7, until Thursday, July 10. “Spider-Man Across the Spider Verse” will be on the big screen from Monday, July 14, until Thursday, July 17.

“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is scheduled from Monday, July 31, until Thursday, July 24th, followed by its sequel as well on Monday, July 28, through Thursday, July 31.
