13-year-old girl killed in off-road rollover incident near Colorado City

police lights

COLORADO CITY — The sheriff’s office is investigating an off-road vehicle incident that claimed the life of a teenager in the north Mohave County community of Cane Beds. Deputies responded at 7:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25 to the incident on private property.

The 13-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene by Colorado City Fire Department personnel.

The investigation revealed that two female juveniles were riding a side-by-side in a dirt field, according to sheriff’s office public information specialist Anita Mortensen.

“The passenger was hanging out of the passenger side while the driver was doing donuts,” Mortensen said. “The driver turned sharply, causing the side-by-side to overturn and land on the passenger, causing fatal injuries.”

Mortensen said neither juvenile was using safety equipment at the time of the rollover.
