Leal sentenced to three years for drug charges

KINGMAN – A Lake Havasu City man convicted of drug offenses was given a three-year prison term during a Sept. 6 sentencing hearing in Kingman. The punishment for Kevin Leal, 30, was mandated in a plea agreement convicting him of possession of narcotic drugs for sale and possession of dangerous drugs for sale.

The charges stemmed from a January 24 search of a residence at 2785 Barbara Drive. Officers responding to a domestic dispute conducted a search after smelling marijuana after they arrived.

Authorities said police seized more than 17 grams of cocaine, more than 130 prescription pills, drug paraphernalia items and almost $700 in cash.

“I just want to apologize to you and the court for wasting your time,” Leal told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert. “I want to put this behind me and move on with my life.”

The hearing was short and Lambert said little since sentencing provisions were stipulated in the plea deal.
