KINGMAN – The City of Kingman’s Development Services Department held its first in a series of developer workshops this past week. A collaborative effort initiated by the City Council to foster stronger relationships between the city and the local development community. The goal of these workshops is to provide a platform for developers and city officials to discuss concerns regarding the permitting process and explore ways to enhance efficiency.
The event saw the participation of city staff, council members, and developers from the area. Key issues raised during the workshop involved concerns about the city’s handling of permit applications and the time it takes to complete project reviews. Newly appointed Development Services Director, Jason Moquin, shared several upcoming changes to address concerns. One of the most significant will be the implementation of Granicus’ digital permitting system, which is slated for rollout next fall. This system, like the one recently approved by Mohave County, will allow developers to submit their permit applications and related documents through an online portal. Once submitted, plans will be routed to the appropriate city departments, enabling developers to track the progress of their applications in real-time. “This new system will streamline applications and address these concerns by providing a more efficient, transparent review process,” Director Moquin noted.
The workshop also included discussion of upcoming zoning ordinance revisions, which staff plans to present to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council over the next few months. The last major ordinance revision occurred in 2021. The first set of updates, which will be presented at the Council’s November 19th meeting, will focus on correcting grammatical errors and adding definition clarifications. Additional changes will include revisions to the entitlement process.
