Bar dispute leaves Kingman businessman dead of gunshot wound

KINGMAN – A dispute between patrons resulted in an early Thursday shooting death at a popular bar in downtown Kingman. Deputy police chief Joel Freed said officers responded to the incident at the Sportsmans Club at 317 E Andy Devine Avenue at about 1:30 a.m.

Freed said well-known Kingman resident Tim Prentice was located inside the bar many call “Sporty’s’’ with a gunshot wound to the chest. Life saving measures were initiated but Prentice, 51, died at Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Freed said the suspect, Anthony Rodriguez, 25, Kingman left the bar and was a passenger in the suspect vehicle that was recognized near the police department. The unidentified driver actually pulled over in the Police Department parking lot where Rodriguez was taken into custody.

“Investigators learned that there had been an argument between Rodriguez and Prentice prior to the shooting,” Freed said.

Rodriguez was booked into the Adult Detention Facility on a second-degree murder charge.
