FOUNTAIN HILLS – A human-caused wildfire on the 4th of July threatened a number of residences in the community of Fountain Hills, about 10 miles north of Kingman. The Northern Arizona Fire District (NAFD) said the “Golden Fire” was reported at about 2:45 p.m.
“The fire is believed to have been caused by a pop-up canopy that flew into power lines due to high winds,” the fire district reported in a Facebook post.
Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management Public Information Officer Tiffany Davila said roads in the area provided a boundary for much of the fire with crews conducting back burning operations to achieve containment by 6 p.m.
Davila said air support had been ordered and there was concern for some of the homes but firefighters were able to keep the fire within an 831-acre boundary. She said no structures were damaged or lost and no injuries were reported.
NAFD expressed thanks for support from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, the Kingman and Golden Valley Fire departments, the Bureau of Land Management and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
