BCSD summer camp to have Olympic theme

BULLHEAD CITY – Bullhead City School District students have the opportunity to get a 2024 Paris Olympics head start during summer camp on the Bullhead City Middle School campus.  The free program for students currently in grades four through eight begins May 28.

BCSD’s summer camp offerings will focus on STEAM curriculum – science, technology, engineering, art and math.  Interventional tutoring is also available for students who need remedial help before the new school year starts.

Online registration for summer camp at Bullhead City Middle School is available at https://forms.gle/37bsWd6wtKASDJrt9 .

Summer camp offerings include:

* Claymation Games – crafting a brief film using the Claymation technique

* Lighting Up the Olympics – exploring electrical circuits while crafting cool projects

* French Connection to the Olympics – the magic of France, intertwined with the summer games

* Greek Olympics – diving into the birthplace of the Olympic games

* Olympic Eats – experimenting with cooking

* Robot Olympics – Building robots that will compete in their own competition

* Science of Olympic Sports – learn and play some Olympic games, including flag football, badminton, handball and more

* STEM/STEAM Olympiad – Competition against other Olympiads to craft top-notch designs

Summer camp students must currently be enrolled in the Bullhead City School District.  Classes will be held four days per week for three weeks on May 28-31, June 3-6, and June 10-13.  School hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A separate summer school for students in kindergarten through third grade will be held at Desert Valley School, and is by invitation-only due to curriculum and staffing.  Bus service is available for summer camp and summer school, and breakfasts and lunches will be served.

Additional information about both programs is available by contacting Donna Heronen at Bullhead City Middle School for grades four through eight (928-758-3921) or Lindsey Abbott at Desert Valley School for the kindergarten through third grade summer classes (928-758-6606).
