Fire department urges caution from burning weeds

BULLHEAD CITY – Bullhead City Fire Department (BHCFD) crewmembers swiftly responded to a residence on Jocabima Dr. following reports of a potential structure fire on . Upon arrival, crews discovered that the source of the fire stemmed from the resident burning weeds in the backyard. The fire was promptly extinguished, preventing a potential tragedy.

During the suppression efforts, crews conducted a thorough inspection, pulling back the home’s siding to check for any extensions of the fire. They found weeds that had grown into the home’s siding material. The situation could have escalated quickly had the burning weeds penetrated the residence.

The incident serves as a reminder to all citizens that burning trash, yard trimmings, and weeds within city limits is illegal and can be deemed reckless burning. BHCFD urges residents to survey their properties and safely remove any combustible materials.

Creating and maintaining a defensible space around your home is crucial. Defensible space refers to an area, either naturally or artificially modified, where vegetation is managed to slow the rate and intensity of a fire. Additionally, it provides space for fire suppression operations in the event of a structure fire.
