Grimes testifies against others in child porn case

KINGMAN – Ian Grimes used a testimonial plea agreement as a get out of jail free card, but the convicted sex offender will still have consequences for possessing electronically transmitted videos and images of child pornography.

Ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor are dismissed in exchange for the conviction of Ian Grimes, 37, on a single count of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. The Mohave County Attorney’s Office afforded leniency because Grimes has agreed to testify against two other alleged child sex offenders.

Grimes, Kingman, was released from custody on Feb. 29, the day he entered the plea bargain.

“I still have some serious reservations about this plea agreement,” Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle said during an April 1 sentencing hearing.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout said Grimes will provide valuable assistance for the state in seeking convictions for alleged sex offenders whose conduct is deemed more egregious.

“It really is for the greater good, if you will, that he is going to help out,” Claerhout said.

The prosecutor informed the Court that Grimes has already provided initial cooperation in the cases against Bradley Manseau, 33, and Jonathan Proenneke 38. The defendants both face multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

Judge Carlisle placed Grimes on probation for 20 years and required him to comply with life-long sex offender registration protocols.

“Mr. Grimes is grateful to be back with his family,” said defense attorney Michael Wozniak.
