Man dies in shed fire

YUCCA – A deadly fire in the community of Yucca is under investigation by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). Dispatch received a call reporting the fire in the 1700 block of La Cienega Ranch Rd. at about 8:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

“Deputies arrived on scene and observed two sheds fully engulfed by flames,” said MCSO public information officer Anita Mortensen. “Personnel from the Golden Valley Fire District responded to the scene and after the fire was extinguished, a deceased victim was located in one of the sheds.”

Mortensen said the female homeowner advised that her male roommate left the residence on foot following a verbal argument and that she believed he had returned to the property several hours later when notified her camera system detected movement near the shed.

“Approximately 30 minutes later another motion alerted her of the fire,” Mortensen said. She said the surveillance system video is being reviewed, but that there is no initial indication of foul play.

Name of the victim is withheld pending positive identification and an autopsy is pending at the Medical Examiner’s Office.
