Fleeing suspect dies following crash

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A man who repeatedly fled police in Lake Havasu City Monday reportedly suffered fatal injuries in a collision with a large motorhome. A news release indicated officers first encountered a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Acoma Blvd. And Demaret Dr. at about 1:06 p.m.

“A traffic stop was attempted but the Camaro fled from officers and was not pursued,” a news release said. Sergeant Kyle Ridgway said police subsequently spotted the vehicle committing additional traffic violations in the area of Sweetwater Ave. and McCulloch Blvd.

“They again attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the driver ultimately fled from police,” Ridgway said. “The driver led police on a low-speed pursuit northbound on Sweetwater Ave. before returning to State Route 95.”

Ridgway said the southbound Camaro crossed left of the center of the highway before striking a northbound motorhome. The name of the male driver of the Camaro who was dead at the scene is initially withheld.

Police said a passenger in the motorhome was transported to the local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Investigation continues.
