‘STEAM’ Camp, summer school registration underway for BCESD, CRUHSD enrichment, credit recovery classes

Schools in the Bullhead City Elementary and Colorado River Union High School Districts will offer two types of summer school programs beginning June 3.  Elementary, middle and junior high school classes will be offered through June 6. High school classes will be available through June 27.

For students in grades two through seven, 20 different STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) enrichment programs are planned.  For high school students, classes will focus on credit recovery and intervention for students needing help with English, math, science and history.

Classes and subjects vary by campus. Faculty members from different schools are collaborating on the programs.  Bus transportation is available in some areas. Free meals or snacks will be provided, depending upon the campus.

Students in grades two through four will attend enrichment classes at Diamondback Elementary School. Students in grades five through seven will have classes at Fox Creek Junior High School. Both Mohave and River Valley High Schools will have intervention and credit recovery classes.   Registration ends May 13 for the grades two through seven classes, and May 28 for the high school classes.

STEAM Camp classes at Diamondback will have a Hawaiian theme including music, drama, art, technology, sports, engineering, science, nutrition and social studies. At Fox Creek, classes include band camp, bioplastics, robotics, computer science, sports, and even the history of Bullhead City.

CRUHSD Academy students needing credit recovery should take those classes at Mohave or River Valley.

The BCESD STEAM Camp program is funded by a Title IV federal grant. The CRUHSD summer school is funded by a Title I federal grant. Both are from the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the Arizona Department of Education. The CRUHSD credit recovery classes also have a $75 registration fee.

Specifics are available by calling each school or reviewing the districts’ website, www.crsk12.org, or the districts’ Facebook page, @crsk12az.
