Visitor Fatality at South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park

On Wednesday, April 3, Grand Canyon National Park rangers responded to a call reporting that someone had fallen over the canyon rim east of Yavapai Geology Museum. Responding rangers located the body of a 67 year old male approximately 400 ft below the rim. The park’s helicopter and  technical rescue team were able to recover the body.

Yavapai Geology Museum is located on the South Rim in Grand Canyon Village. At this time the area is open and accessible to visitors.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner. No additional information is available at this time. Grand Canyon National Park staff encourages all visitors to have a safe visit by staying on designated trails and walkways, always keeping a safe distance from the edge of the rim and staying behind railings and fences at overlooks.
