Snow slows Kingman Tuesday

KINGMAN – Four- to six-inch accumulations from an overnight snowstorm made for dangerous driving conditions in Kingman. Kingman police Chief Rusty Cooper said officers handled 11 traffic accident calls between 4:00 p.m. Monday and 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Cooper said minor injuries occurred in two of the crashes and that officers handled another 20 incidents involving rigs left stranded around the city.

“El Trov Hill in the 1100 block of E. Andy Devine Ave. was particularly treacherous,” Cooper said. “The City of Kingman Public Works & Street Department was out in force all night, making major roadways and surface streets passable.  Due to highway closures multiple commercial vehicles were required to park in Kingman on city streets.”

Cooper urged residents to remain home and avoid driving danger if possible.

“Roadways will be covered in snow and icy conditions.  If you must drive please take care, drive slowly,” Cooper said. “Prepare well in advance to brake cautiously.  Avoid slamming on the brakes if possible.  Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is highly recommended.”

The city shut down its public transit service for Tuesday. All morning hearings scheduled in Mohave County Superior Court and Kingman Justice Court were postponed.

Judges and court staff were working to reschedule some hearings after 1:00 p.m. or for other days in the future.
