Search & Rescue Academy open

MOHAVE COUNTY – On Saturday and Sunday June 13 and 14, Mohave County Search and Rescue coordinators prepared and instructed a 16-hour Arizona Search & Rescue (SAR) Basic Academy for new members with Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue.

The Arizona SAR Basic Academy includes training on Arizona requirements, policies and procedures; an introduction to searches and different types of searches (route/location and area searches); safety and hazards; risk management; map, compass and land navigation; wilderness survival; personal survival; communications; the Incident Command System; and an introduction to tracking.

This introduction to Arizona SAR is a foundation to much more involved training that members will be participating in as they become more involved in SAR with their assigned units.

Anyone interested in joining and volunteering with the Search and Rescue units can visit www.mohavecounty.us for more information.
