KINGMAN – The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports a significant cocaine seizure in Kingman. The agency said a Toyota minivan was eastbound on Interstate 40 when stopped for traffic violations observed by a Canine District trooper on March 11.
“While talking with the driver, the trooper observed indicators of criminal activity,” a DPS news release said. “The awareness ultimately led to a vehicle search, during which the trooper found a large amount of tightly wrapped packages concealed beneath rugs in the trunk.”
DPS said 447 pounds of cocaine valued at $12.1 million was seized. The agency said the driver and passenger were arrested, but did not disclose their identities.
Mohave County legal authorities identify the subjects as Ali Khayatian, 64, New Jersey and Kuhlwinder Dhillon, 50 of Ontario, Canada. Both subjects are held in the Adult Detention Facility awaiting legal proceedings.
“The case highlights the outstanding work our Canine District troopers do every day,” the news release said. “Their skill, attention to detail and focus on disrupting criminal activity make a real impact throughout Arizona.”
