Dear Editor, Does the grocery store scare you?

Thank you for reading The Standard newspaper online!

Yes Virginia, there is a democrat running for office in Mohave County!

MOHAVE COUNTY – Following candidacy declarations dating back to February from 31 republicans seeking various county positions in the 2024 election cycle, Lake Havasu City democrat Brian McMahan tossed his hat into the ring Tuesday, 20 days before Christmas.

McMahan, Chief of the Buckskin Fire Dept., is pursuing the democratic party nomination for the District 5 Board seat held by republican Ron Gould. The incumbent seeks the GOP primary nomination in the Aug. 6 election, along with challengers Christopher Morgan and Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi.

Some 20 county residents so far have declared candidacy for the five board of supervisor seats, all of them republicans save McMahan, and Wayne Hollins, a Golden Valley resident running as an independent in Dist. 4. 11 others are gathering nominating petition signatures to attempt to qualify for Sheriff, Recorder, Treasurer, Assessor, Attorney, School Superintendent, Judicial and Constable races.

The names and filing dates for the various office seekers can be accessed on the county website (Mohave.gov) by clicking through the Government, Elections and 2024 Statement of Interest Filed tabs. The elections department tab contains other valuable information regarding timeframes and deadlines for various steps in the process involving submission of nominating papers and the early voting calendar.
