KINGMAN – A license suspension has resulted in work stoppage at a commercial construction site where a new contractor will soon be on the job in downtown Kingman. Minuteman Building owner Jeff Erb said the Arizona Registrar of Contractors suspended his license last month due to an administrative issue rather than poor performance.
Erb said oversight and failure to pay its bond produced the suspension. He said he is working through that matter and expects to have his license reinstated in less than a week.
Erb said his two-year-old company took on too much work too fast and has experienced some growing pains. “There’s no way to deny we’ve had some issues,” he said.
Arizona Registrar of Contractor officials did not respond to inquiry regarding Minuteman and any complaints that might exist.
Chris Godwin hired Minuteman to build a motorcycle repair shop at the corner of Third and Beale Sts. Construction began in March last year while Godwin anticipated opening by last Thanksgiving.
Another Thanksgiving will soon pass and Godwin still won’t be able to open his Ironside Cycles shop. Godwin said slow progress and the license suspension are factors in his decision to terminate his contract with Minuteman.
“I don’t want to badmouth Jeff or Minuteman in anyway,” Godwin said. Both Godwin and Erb said they ended their business deal in clean and amicable fashion without animosity.
Erb wished Godwin well with his cycle shop venture.
“It’s a great project,” Erb said. “He (Godwin) should do really well.”
Godwin said he has a number of business opportunities and repair jobs on hold due to the construction delay. He said he is working to retain Ben Horn and Double Horn Construction to finish his project.
“We’re building a 50 X 100 ft. building that will be 2 stories tall and it’s going to have a balcony,” Godwin said. “It’s going to be a motorcycle repair shop, predominately for older Harley Davidson’s. Makes and models that are everyday use we can do tires, brakes and routine service.”
Godwin said Double Horn should be on the job by mid-Oct., if not sooner, and that he hopes his shop is ready to open within six months.
