TOPOCK — A Las Vegas man charged in a Topock shooting death entered a mandatory prison plea agreement on September 5. Quintin Vesga, 27, is convicted of manslaughter.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said Vesga was impaired by alcohol and psychadelic mushrooms when his reckless gunfire inside a residence in the 5400 block of E. Nogales Drive claimed the life of Dennis Morris, 67, Topock, on July 5.

Few case details surfaced in legal proceedings though consumption of illegal mushrooms and alcohol was noted in the Sheriff’s office initial news release.

“Believing he was having a nightmare, Vesga obtained a firearm and shot himself in the hand,’’ that news release said. “Vesga then began firing the weapon inside the residence, ultimately shooting the victim several times.”

Terms of the plea deal require Mohave County Superior Court judge Derek Carlisle to impose a 5-year prison term during an October 6 sentencing hearing.
