Arizona Furniture is a business striving not only for the best customer service, but also the best home products for affordable prices. Most people know the big building placed conveniently on the corner of Route 66 and Castle Rock, but do most people know the man behind the curtain?
Joe Kaelin, the owner of Arizona Furniture, is a genuine and compassionate man with the sole purpose of helping those around him. He believes that “a business’s job is first and foremost to look out for the community.
Four years ago, Joe took over Arizona Furniture, but he was invested in the furniture business long before. When he was 14, he spent his summers dusting the show room of a furniture store both his mother and sister worked in. He grew up in a family-operated store, and the owner’s daughter would even give him baseball tickets to see the Angels play. They treated him as family. This support and love made him exactly who he is today. He even said that every time he left furniture, “well, the boomerang always came back.”
Joe grew up in a small town that cared about its community. When a car broke down, or a roof was damaged, neighbors from all over would help each other, instead of watching others suffer. When he went off to the military, he said of all the places he’d seen, Kingman was the closest to his hometown he had found, and the town became his community quick.
In the time that Joe has been in Kingman, he has helped an assortment of people. He says the people he is most passionate about are kids, veterans, and seniors. Arizona Furniture has worked closely with organizations like Child Protective Services. Whenever CPS needs mattress or furniture donations, Joe is one of the first they call. Joe loves to help “so that kids in our community can stay together and stay here.”
To use these morals and standards, Joe strives for great customer service. His salespeople have the same integrity, and thus their main purpose is to educate customers and give them something that is perfect for them. To Joe, furniture is not just furniture. It’s a quality of life. Getting someone into the right chair or the right mattress is more important to him than the numbers. He cares so much about his customers that he even makes it a point to them that “after you’ve paid, you’re still our customer, and we are still going to service you. You just have to call!” They even offer free mattress turning! He once told a woman that she didn’t have to get a new mattress, she would just have to call, and they would turn her bed for her for no charge. He believes “small acts of kindness are important” and you can see it in his eagerness to help anyone.
With plans to update their sign standing over Route 66, they also have other big dreams to update their brand.
iRecline is Arizona Furniture’s baby. Joe’s goal is to create a fully custom living room for anyone. He says, “People are buying these custom homes and then they’re going to a retailer and these retailers aren’t really offering anything different than other retailers.” What Joe wants to accomplish is giving people a one of a kind living space for their already one of a kind homes. With over 300 fabrics to choose from, customers can pick frames and styles and comfort levels that suit them best.
With these projects under way, Joe hopes that he will not only bring profit to his business, but to his community as well. In other words, he wants to be the company that brings the money here, to home. He hopes that the future will bring growth, but he stated, “We don’t ever want the pursuit of growth to exceed our ability to give. If growing means no longer giving, then we need to slow down. You serve your community first, and you don’t look down on anybody.”
For Joe, his growth is our growth, and that is how a business should be.
