Adoption Mentality

As a horticulture enthusiast, when I visit a nursery and buy a plant for my home, I am essentially behaving like a new pet owner. I will adopt a certain variety, add a pot, select fortified soil, purchase plant food, and so forth, just as I would for a new puppy albeit with puppies I would select food, pet beds, collars, etc.

Lovingly, I will place my newfound friend, and responsibility, at a location that seems best for growth. Everything has an aura of invitation, inclusion, and interpersonal relationship.

I have been pushing myself recently.

To try and understand the atheistic ideology and worldview, I have recently read various materials and listened to debates by a couple of prominent detractors of the Christian faith, namely Sam Harris and posthumously, Christopher Hitchens. These men are and were formidable foes and counterpoints to the Judeo/Christian ethic.

There are only 85 days left.

Now some of you are counting on your fingers and toes and have determined I must be wrong; there are 62 days.

Nope it’s 85 and how do I know? Because I am not talking about the presidential election. I am thinking of Thanksgiving.

The irony is not lost on me in what may be the most divided time in recent American history politically, we will collectively pause and give thanks for friends, family, and hopefully God.

New Beginnings Fellowship to have new digs

KINGMAN – The New Beginnings Fellowship is eager to develop a new church property in Kingman. A Conditional Use Permit for the project was approved during the Aug. 14 meeting of the Kingman City Planning and Zoning Commission.

The church is planned on a 3.15-acre parcel at the southwest corner of Riata Valley Road and Western Avenue.

“There’s some vacant property adjacent to the site to the west and to the south. There’s also an assisted living facility to the south, an auto dealership to the south and single-family residential uses to the east and north,”

I saw something the other day that impressed me and caused me to consider my own behavior and, sadly, my failings. I was in the commercial parking lot with Staples, Big 5, and Taco Bell, had just parked my truck, and was headed-in to the office supply store.

I am worried.
For those of you who memorize scripture, in your mind you are likely reciting the verse, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
