Popular Lake Mead National Recreation Area trails reopening this Fall

Trails set to reopen next month after the annual summer closure to mitigate heat and safety risks

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is announcing the planned reopening of several popular trails on Tuesday, October 1, following the summer seasonal trail closure. The annual closure, in effect from May 15 through September 30, is implemented to protect visitors from extreme summer heat.

The trails reopening include:

* Goldstrike Canyon

* White Rock Canyon and White Rock Canyon Trail

* Arizona Hot Springs and Arizona Hot Springs Trail

* Liberty Arch Trail

* Lone Palm Trail

* Sugar Loaf Trail

* Surrounding areas of Lone Palm and Sugar Loaf

$2 million slated for South Cove improvements

MEADVIEW – The NPS (National Park Service) on Friday, September 6th met with area volunteers at the Meadview community center and provided a recap of the busy summer season. Meadview is well-known for its high rate of volunteerism and community pride.

Additionally, there was a short training session for volunteers after the meeting at the historic Meadview Ranger Station regarding proper methods for pruning native vegetation in the LMNRA (Lake Mead National Recreation Area.).

Government Wash vehicle access, overnight camping restrictions

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — The National Park Service is closing the Government Wash portion of Lake Mead National Recreation Area to motor vehicle access and overnight camping beginning Aug. 1. Government Wash Road and 8.0 Mile Road—access roads into Government Wash from North Shore Road—will be blocked, and motor vehicle access into the area will be prohibited. Hiking, biking, and shoreline access by boat for recreation within 100 feet of the shoreline will remain available.
