Symphonic Winds will perform big band music at free concert

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Lake Havasu Symphonic Winds will be returning this season with their Big Band Energy Music of the 40s. Created in 1998 by former Lake Havasu High School band director Wesley Humphrey, previous graduates urged the director to arrange a band made up of adults.

Excitement amongst the graduates grew, and they began rehearsing each Thursday in the band room of the high school. The weekly rehearsals eventually led to live community concerts in 1999.

At first, Humphrey came up with the name Wind Ensemble for the band due to the group’s difficulty in balancing their sound and having more than just one kind of instrument. Today, the ensemble is known as Symphonic Winds. Teens are always welcome to join the band as well. Age range for the group is 16 to 90. With 26 years of local performances, the band has participated in various shows around Lake Havasu like Concerts in the Park, patriotic shows, Halloween concerts and much more.

If you love legendary jazz giants of the 1940s like Benny Goodman, Count Basie, and Glenn Miller, this will be the show that you will not want to miss.

This concert is free to the public and tickets are currently available for pickup at the Mohave County Library in Lake Havasu. The Symphonic Winds Big Band Energy Music from the 40s will be taking place on Monday, November 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Havasu City Library. Listen to the historic legends that made jazz great at this year’s Big Band Energy Music of the 40s.
