Dear Editor,
As we begin 2025, I want to reflect on an incredible year at Mohave Community College and look ahead to a bright future for our students and the communities we serve. MCC has made tremendous strides in delivering on our mission to empower students and serve the communities of Mohave County through innovative partnerships and quality education.
In 2024, we witnessed remarkable growth in enrollment with 4,656 students enrolled in fall 2024, an increase of 17% compared to fall 2023, and current spring enrollment is up by nearly 10%. These numbers are more than just data—they represent students pursuing their dreams, enhancing their skills and preparing for careers that will strengthen our communities. With spring classes beginning January 13 and summer courses starting June 2, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the life-changing opportunities the College offers.
Advancing Academic Excellence
Our commitment to academic excellence remains at the forefront of everything we do, and in 2024, Mohave Community College made significant strides in implementing its Academic Master Plan. This strategic roadmap positions the College to meet the educational and workforce needs of our region by expanding and enhancing training programs. The Academic Master Plan features 14 academic pathways designed to guide students in completing their two-year degrees or certificates while helping them seamlessly transition into the workforce or transfer to one of our many partner universities. Check out our offerings by going to mohave.edu/academics.
Our Corporate and Community Education division also enhanced its non-credit offerings, providing more learning opportunities for all community members. Many of these non-credit classes also complement our workforce training initiatives, ensuring we serve a broad spectrum of learners across Mohave County by offering short-term, industry-recognized credential programs.
A significant milestone is the planned introduction of bachelor’s degrees, which will provide advanced academic pathways for students. The College plans to seek board approval to offer bachelor’s degrees in areas such as: Human Services (Substance Abuse Counseling, Public Health, and Child/Adolescent/Family), Education (Elementary Education), Nursing, Biology, and Business and Psychology. Pending approval from the board and higher education accrediting bodies, some of these could launch within the next year. These offerings mark a transformative step, and a game-changing opportunity for students throughout the district, who will have access to more high quality and AFFORDABLE college pathways.
Speaking of a game-changing opportunity, among the many highlights of the past year was the launch of our region’s first college athletic teams. As new members of the National Junior College Athletic Association, our Men’s Soccer team finished an impressive 2nd in the conference, and the Women’s team showed significant improvement throughout the season and look forward to a stellar year in 2025.
Also in 2024, the U.S. Department of Education recognized our commitment to serving all communities and awarded the College a nearly $3 million grant to support our Pathways to Success for Hispanic and Low-Income Students initiative. This prestigious grant underscores our commitment as a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) to empower students from diverse backgrounds and help increase academic success for all, which will enhance the workforce and support economic growth in Mohave County.
Infrastructure Investment for the Future
2024 was also a banner year for campus development. We completed the first-ever student housing project and broke ground on the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center (AMTC) at the Kingman Airport Industrial Park. Thanks to the great support from the State of Arizona, our local County Supervisors and key City of Kingman officials, the state-of-the-art, 36,000-square-foot facility will serve the entire region and feature a design lab, Simulated (SIM) and Virtual Reality (VR) lab, and a Maker Space. It will also be home to MCC Career and Technical Education Division programs such as HVAC, Welding, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing and others. This project reflects our commitment to aligning education with industry needs, ensuring our students are prepared for future careers.
In Lake Havasu City, we are pursuing the Transportation Technical Training Center (T3C), a critical initiative to address the regional shortage of skilled technicians. Extensive research and conversations with community stakeholders demonstrated the need for this facility, which will provide training in automotive service, marine repair, powersports and alternative fuels. We look forward to presenting this project to the board in 2025, as part of Phase 1 of our Facilities Master Plan.
Rebranding for a New Era
In fall of 2024, the board approved the name transition to “Mohave College,” reflecting our expanding programs and services. While the College’s official legal name will remain the Mohave County Community College District, the rebranding to Mohave College aligns with our evolution, and enhances our connection with students, partners and the community.
The in-house Design Team has finalized two logo options, and in February the College will bring a final design recommendation to the board. The rebranding process will continue throughout the spring and summer, culminating in an official public unveiling in August.
More to Come in 2025
The College looks forward to continuing the prioritization of student success through targeted support services, workforce training, and partnerships with local industries, municipalities and education leaders.
Our focus on high quality higher education and workforce development remains a cornerstone of our mission. By collaborating with businesses, community leaders and government partners, we will continue providing students the skills they need to thrive in careers that drive economic growth across Mohave County.
Finally, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our students, employees, board members, community partners and legislators for their unwavering support. It is through your dedication and collaboration that we continue to achieve remarkable progress.
Here’s to a phenomenal 2025 at Mohave College! Together, we are building a future that empowers students, strengthens communities and inspires success.
Go Bighorns!
