Dear Editor,
The Department of Health and Human Services’ plan to cut 10,000 full-time jobs across several agencies is a soulless move that puts greed over the well-being of our citizens. These layoffs will have devastating consequences.
The closure of half of the regional offices and the loss of 3,500 jobs at the FDA, 2,400 at the CDC, and 1,200 at the NIH will severely impact critical healthcare services. As Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pointed out, American health is already in decline, and these cuts will only exacerbate the problem. It is unconscionable to lay off dedicated healthcare workers, especially when their services are needed more than ever.
This decision prioritizes profit over people’s lives and shows a callous disregard for the health and well-being of our communities. These cuts will lead to a decline in public health and potentially cost lives.
