Skeen receives the Commission on Professional Credentialing Fire Marshal designation
The Commission of Professional Credentialing (CPC) announced that Bullhead City Fire Department staff Barbie Skeen has successfully completed the process that awards the professional designation of “Fire Marshal” (FM). The CPC met on February 5, to confer the designation. Skeen becomes one of only 153 FMs worldwide.
The designation program is a voluntary program designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate their excellence in seven measured components including experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competence. In addition, all applicants are required to identify a future professional development plan.
The FM designation program used a comprehensive peer review model to evaluate candidates seeking the credential. The CPC awards the designation only after an individual successfully meets all of the organization’s stringent criteria.
This professional designation is valid for three years. Maintaining the designation requires recipients to show continued growth in the areas of professional development, professional contributions, active association membership, and community involvement as well as adhere to a strict code of professional conduct.
Skeen began her career with the Bullhead City Fire Department in 2004 as the Public Education Specialist. Currently, she holds the position of Fire Investigator/Fire Inspector. Skeen graduated from the Grand Canyon University with a Master’s of Science in Leadership with an emphasis in disaster preparedness and executive fire leadership. She holds a Bachelor’s of Applied Science from Arizona State University in Fire Service Management and an Associate’s of Applied Science from Scottsdale Community College in Fire Science Technology. Skeen recognizes the importance of giving back to the community, leading by example, performing at the highest level and having a positive attitude.
