RC boats will boast speeds up to 90 mph

LAKE HAVASU CITY – RC gearheads, get ready to witness the most amazing event of the season! London Bridge Model Boat Club will be making a comeback this year with their annual RC Boat Race.

The club meets weekly at Rotary Park and it’s free for visitors wanting to learn more about RC boat racing.  For those interested in becoming a member of the club, their yearly membership fee is only $20.

The club strongly encourages members to join the North American Model Boating Association (NAMBA). NAMBA is a nonprofit group for radio controlled model boaters.

The association consists of directors who enforce rules of the club, they also can provide insurance coverage needed for accidents. NAMBA yearly membership is $45. Their RC Boat Racing event is one of the largest gas boat races in the country.

This year the race will have 150 to 200 boats. Speeds will be 60 to 90 miles per hour. A variety of racing levels will be present racing the oval course throughout the channel.

Not only will there be racers from Arizona, drivers from New Mexico, Nevada, and California will also be in attendance. The three-day event is free and spectators  can bring their own lawn chairs to take in the excitement of the competition.

Drivers will be gearing up for the race during their practice day scheduled for Friday, January 26 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Bridgewater Channel. The 21st Annual RC Boat Race will be held on Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Bridgewater Channel.
