Probation given for heroin possession

KINGMAN -A local judge picked probation over prison for a Kingman sentenced Thursday for possessing almost 13 grams of heroin when pulled over by a Mohave County Sheriff’s deputy nearly six months ago. The county attorney’s office charged it as a sales case but allowed Patrick Holmes, 66, to plead guilty to the reduced charge of possession of narcotic drugs.

Defense attorney Ken Beane told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert that Holmes is not a dealer, but became addicted to drugs when dealing with pain from work related injuries. Lambert placed Holmes on probation and ordered him to perform 360 hours of community work service.

Holmes was credited for time served, and released from custody after spending 171 days in the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility.
