LAKE HAVASU CITY – Local healthcare nonprofit Don’t Be Greedy will be hosting a poker run this weekend in an effort to raise additional funds for Havasu families in need.
Director of the organization Heidi Greedy created the charity after her husband Shane Greedy lost his battle with colon cancer.
The journey of her husband’s illness led to multiple trips to California for the needed chemo treatments that are not accessible in Lake Havasu. Realizing the blessing and convenience of having a second home in California, Greedy’s husband wondered about patients who are not as fortunate and have to continuously travel outside of a small town to receive medical attention.
A burden that is not only time consuming but also can also cause financial hardships. When Greedy’s husband passed in August of 2023, she wanted to honor her husband’s wish of providing financial assistance for other patients needing to commute to outside hospitals. November of 2023 is when Don’t Be Greedy held their very first poker run fundraiser at Bunker Bar. With the help of family and friends, the event was a success as it raised over $19,000.
Poker hands can be picked up during the gathering beginning at 11 a.m. at local businesses such as Morgan Motorsports, River Valley Window Company, Allpaps, and Define Boutique. Best hand will be eligible to win $500. Attendees can enjoy live music, lunch, 50/50 raffle, and a live auction.
This weekend’s Don’t Be Greedy Poker Run will be on Saturday, February 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bunker Bar. Come out and show your support for deserving families in need of care during challenging times.
