Martin said a private helicopter was the first to reach the scene of the crash under power lines in rugged and remote terrain about five miles east of Golden Shores. He said civilians pulled the man from the burning aircraft wreckage.

Martin said it was difficult for personnel from his department, the Golden Shores Fire Department and the Sheriff’s office to reach the crash site. He said the pilot appeared to be critically injured from both the crash and the fire.

Martin said hospital transport occurred by CareFlight helicopter.

“Deputies received information that the plane had taken off from the Sun Valley-Bison-Fort Mohave Airport but reported having engine trouble,” Mortensen said. She said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
