Petsmart helps shelter find homes for Kingman pets.

KINGMAN –  On Jan 11, the Friends of Mohve County Animal Shelter hosted its semi-regular Kingman Petsmart Dog Adoptions, at the Petsmart on Stockton Hill Rd. The event was hosted inside the Petsmart building, where customers were allowed to view a sample of dogs for potential adoption.

The animal adoptions are an ongoing event according to shelter manager/supervisor Nicole Manigiameli, with the shelter hoping to be at Petsmart every weekend if they can. Manigiameli, thanked Petsmart for their assistance, citing them as a contributing factor to ongoing adoptions. Manigiameli explained that some people and potential adoptees don’t necessarily like the atmosphere of a pet shelter. Petsmart has a much more positive atmosphere for them to venture to and hopefully find an adoption. It’s also beneficial to the dogs, as they are allowed a change of scenery and are kept warm.

The adoption process includes a simple questionnaire to ascertain the living conditions and personality of the potential adoptee. For example, some people try to adopt, but live in places that don’t allow pets. The shelter would prefer not to give a dog to someone, who would be at risk of bringing the dog back, or otherwise leaving the dog. They’d like for the potential adoptee to be an animal lover.

For the potential adoptee, all of the shelter’s pets come spayed and neutered and are microchipped. They come with up-to-date vaccines, though depending on age, puppies might need additional vaccines as they age. The price for adoption is $125 for dogs and $65 for cats. The shelter provides a 10% discount to veterans and seniors. Currently, one-year-old dogs, over 20 pounds are $10. They also frequently run other specials, and additional discounts. Adoptees are provided with a coupon book for Petsmart and Petco and are eligible for free veterinarian visits.

The adoptions are planned for every weekend, with the next adoption event set for Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Petsmart, 3260 Stockton Hill Road.

Between the Petsmart adoption events, pets can always be adopted directly from the Friends of Mohave County Animal Shelter, located at 950 Buchanan Street in Kingman.
