A Lake Havasu City woman who admits violating probation and possessing illegal drugs is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections if a local judge accepts a plea agreement entered July 11. Stacey Parenti was placed on probation in 2015 after pleading guilty to possession of dangerous drugs associated with a 33 gram methamphetamine seizure.
Mohave County Superior Court judge Rick Lambert said the petition to revoke her probation alleged that Parenti failed urinalysis drug tests on December 3, 10 and 17 last year. Officers assisted probation with a January, 2019 residential search to explore the validity of Parenti’s claim that she had not been using drugs, despite the test results.
Prosecutor David Wayt told Judge Lambert that officers located 4.8 grams of methamphetamine from the nightstand in the bedroom of the home where Parenti was staying on Chicasaw Drive.
During Thursday’s hearing Parenti admitted the probation violations and pleaded guilty to possession of dangerous drugs. Terms of the deal require the Court to impose a 2.5-year prison sentence for the new case and 3.5 years for violating probation in the old meth case.
The Court has discretion to run the sentences concurrent, which result in a 3.5-year sentence. Or the Court can run them consecutive, resulting in a six year prison hitch.
Judge Lambert granted the defense request to defer acceptance of the plea deal until sentencing because Parenti would have been taken into custody Thursday. He scheduled sentencing for July 30, giving Parenti some additional freedom before her prison term will likely begin.
