No injuries in officer-involved shooting

GOLDEN VALLEY – No one was injured in a late morning, Aug. 31 officer-involved shooting (OIS) in Golden Valley. It is standard practice for one law enforcement agency to conduct an independent investigation of another agency’s OIS, and in this case, the Lake Havasu City Police Department is reviewing the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office incident.

Lake Havasu police sergeant Kyle Ridgway said deputies traced a stolen U-Haul truck to Golden Valley.

“Initial information provided to the deputies indicated that the suspect driving the U-Haul truck was believed to be armed and dangerous,” Ridgway said. He said deputies who learned the U-Haul was parked at a business in the 100 block of S. Cove Road located the vehicle and its driver at the business.

Ridgway said the suspect ignored deputy commands before getting into the U-Haul and drove away at a high rate of speed.

“Deputies heard several shots being fired as the U-Haul was fleeing,” Ridgway said. “A deputy fired his weapon, striking the U-Haul.”

Ridgway said the suspect, William Erwin, 40, Lakewood, California, fled on State Route 68 with deputies in pursuit. Erwin made it to Laughlin, Nevada, where he was contacted and arrested by Las Vegas Metro Police Department officers.

Erwin was reportedly booked into the Clark County Detention facility for possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful flight and two felony warrants from Bullhead City.
