Mohave Community College nursing programs drive economic growth

MCC Nursing students in one of the College’s on-campus labs to learn how to assess patient blood pressure. The MCC Registered Nursing program has a 100% job placement rate for students. Students are typically hired by hospitals, medical centers or doctors’ offices prior to, or shortly after, graduation.

MOHAVE COUNTY — Mohave Community College (MCC) is proud to highlight the significant contributions of its Nursing Programs to the local economy and the remarkable return on investment for its students. A recent in-depth study conducted by Lightcast, a global leader in labor market analytics, assessed the impact of MCC’s Nursing and Nursing Assistant Programs and reveals impressive outcomes for both graduates and Arizona taxpayers.

The majority of MCC Nursing Program graduates enter the Mohave County workforce as registered nurses, addressing a critical need in the healthcare sector.

Alumni of MCC’s Nursing Program have made a substantial economic impact, adding $16.7 million in annual income to the Mohave County economy. This figure encompasses the increased income of former students, the enhanced output of businesses employing the graduates, and the broader economic multiplier effects.

Students in MCC’s Nursing Program see a remarkable return on their educational investment. For every dollar invested in their education, MCC Registered Nursing students receive $14.40 in higher career income. This far surpasses the U.S. stock market’s 30-year average return of 10.1%.

Arizona taxpayers also reap significant benefits from the Nursing Program. An estimated present value of $12.6 million in added annual tax revenue stems from the students’ higher lifetime earnings and increased business output. Additionally, savings of approximately $183,114 are anticipated due to a reduced demand for government-funded social services. Overall, throughout the students’ working lives, Arizona taxpayers will gain a total of $12.8 million in present value benefits.

“Our nursing programs are not just an educational cornerstone but also an economic engine for Mohave County,” said Kerrie Hess, Director of Nursing Programs at MCC.  “The impressive return on investment for our students and the substantial taxpayer benefits underscore the value and impact of our program. We are proud of our graduates who go on to make a meaningful difference in the healthcare industry and our community.”
