Mesquite Weekend: Local permaculture event prepares for third year

GOLDEN VALLEY – The tri-state area is invited to the 3rd Annual Mesquite Weekend presented by Mez Food, taking place in Golden Valley, Sunday, March 30 at Veteran’s Park. The 3rd Annual Mesquite Weekend is a free permaculture fair in Golden Valley, Arizona that features speakers, family yard games, a seed exchange, vendors, and drought-tolerant foods.

Velvet, honey, and screwbean mesquite trees grow easily in Arizona. Encouraging people to eat more foods that grow easily in the desert and are healthy is an aim of the event. “We believe mesquite is more than just an ingredient—it’s a movement toward a more sustainable and resilient food system. And we’re honored to support Mesquite Weekend and to highlight the power of desert-grown foods.”

“We are excited to partner with Mez Foods as the presenting sponsor for the 3rd Annual Mesquite Weekend,” said Shay Olivarria, Founder at Mesquite Weekend. “Their commitment to sustainability through the use of desert-dwelling, drought-tolerant foods aligns perfectly with our vision for an impactful and engaging experience for all attendees.”

It’s a free, family-focused event with something for everyone. This year’s speakers include: the Mohave County Master Gardeners talking about irrigation techniques and soil composition, ISA Certified Arborist Mike Jones explaining the correct way to prune your fruit trees, and Wayne Hollins sharing information about water harvesting.

The free seed exchange happens all day. Mohave Community College’s Little Seed Library will be in attendance sharing seeds as well. Bring what you have. Take what you need.

Vendors will be in attendance selling trees, plants, books, permaculture, and more. Native food snacks and prickly pear lemonade will be available for sale. Family yard games like Connect Four, Sorry, dominoes, and corn hole will be available all day.

Watercolor artist Kerrie Mortimer will be offering a watercolor class at 2pm.

Join the movement towards sustainable living at the 3rd Annual Mesquite Weekend presented by Mez Foods. Come for the speakers, family yard games, seed exchange, vendors, drought-tolerant foods, and watercolor painting.
