Mesa woman pleads guilty to killing her mother in Kingman

Interior of courtroom

KINGMAN — A Mesa woman charged in the strangulation murder of her mother in Kingman almost three years ago has entered a mandatory prison plea agreement. Gabrielle Axon, 53, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder during a July 16 court appearance before Judge Doug Camacho.

Terms of the deal require imposition of a 10-21 year prison term at a sentencing hearing scheduled August 13.

Axon’s mother, Brenda Marshall, 71, was reported missing in August, 2022 when family members were no longer able to reach her by telephone. Her missing SUV was located parked on Main Street in Mesa on August 13, 2022.

Mesa police said Marshall’s body was found in the vehicle, stuffed in a large plastic tote. Kingman police reported a plastic lid matching the tote was found in Marshall’s residence at 1011 East Gordon Drive.

Axon previously served a short prison term after pleading guilty in Maricopa County to abandoning her mother’s body.
