Dear Editor,
Leading our nation’s youth is one of the most important jobs an American can do. This generation holds future congressmen, senators and presidents.
Teen Age RepublicanS, known as TARS, was founded in 1966 by Barby Wells with the help of Senator Bill Brock, Congressman Buz Lukens and Fulton Lewis III. National TARS is now in its 53rd year! Barby has been running the organization since its conception.
Being a MCTAR provides an opportunity to have an impact on elections and learn more about the process that makes the United States of America the greatest nation in the world. TARS are dedicated to educating teen agers in the traditional principles of free enterprise, constitutional government and patriotism.
Most importantly, MCTARS become good involved citizens who care about good government. Successful and active TARS clubs are chartered with the National TeenAge RepublicanS and the Arizona State TeenAge RepublicanS who have the “most” TARS members in the Nation. TARS provide training for future leadership which is both the focus and goal of the MCTAR.
The National TARS hold a Leadership Traing Conference every July in Washington D.C. The Conference began in 1978. TARS are delegates who take part in planning, preparing and voting for current issues that involve the youth and the Country and gives the opportunity to network with TARS across the nation. MCTARS-Kingman’s Chairman Hunter Escoffier, a student at Kingman High School, was a delegate to the LT Conference this year. Hunter was recently selected to be a member on Governor Doug Duceys’ Youth Commission. Also every spring, the Arizona State TARS hold a Spring Banquet, in the Phoenix area, as a yearly fundraiser with notable congressional guest speakers.
Education, along with hands- on- communication, becomes the tangible link with legislators, congressmen, city and county officials both in Arizona and Washington D.C. which is an extremely valuable tool for the TAR. TARS impact Voter Registration turnouts along with Get Out the Vote initiative which gives the TAR the grass roots education and training needed to experience first hand what it takes to become a Precinct Committeemen. By speaking to other youth, in their own terms, allows the TAR to play a major role in convincing newly enfranchised citizens to vote Republican on issues relating to foreign and domestic policy.
If you know of any high school teens, ages 13 to 19 years old in the Kingman, Bullhead City and Lake Havasu areas, that are interested in government, how it works and have fun at the same time, please contact the MCTAR’s Club Sponsor, Jody Schanaman at Jobear4@msn.com or MCTARS liason Suellen Stewart. at sstewart01kng@gmail.com. MCTAR invites and welcomes all teens!!!
God Bless America!
Hunter Escoffier, Chairman
